As anyone who has been in Worcester for the last decade or so will tell you, the city is much more than it once was: once-dingy neighborhoods have sprouted vibrant restaurants and retail businesses, and a city that had few choices for entertainment just a few years ago now boasts an active theater district and multiple professional sports teams.

Worcester’s reputation outside its immediate surroundings, however, has not necessarily kept up with that transformation. At this week’s Worcester Homecoming, big players in the city’s redevelopment attempted to rectify that, attributing much of the change to collaboration and perseverance among residents, nonprofit organizations, private companies and the local and state governments.
